House Republicans Vote to Repeal Cost of Living Increase

HB61 prohibits the state minimum wage from exceeding the federal minimum wage.  The bill strips the cost-of-living escalator from Missouri’s minimum wage law(which currently stands at $7.25 an hour), which is tied to the Consumer Price Index. 

The current law is the product of a 2006 voter-approved initiative that was passed by 76 percent of voters.  All but eight Republican representatives chose to ignore the voice of their constituents by voting in favor of this piece of legislation.

The bill has moved to the Senate, where it will be heard by the Small Business, Insurance and Industry Committee later this week.  To track the bill’s status, please check:
